In a programme with MBC on Friday, 29 May 2020, Malawi President Peter Mutharika claimed that Jane Ansah was among the two judges in the Malawi Judiciary to hold PhDs

CONCLUSION

The President was incorrect. Four members of the Malawi Judiciary have PhDs. These are Justices Jane Ansah, Michael Mtambo, Chifundo Kachale and Redson Kapindu.

  • The President was correct that Justice Jane Ansah was among the most educated members of the Judiciary holding a PhD. She holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham in United Kingdom.
  • The Judiciary also has Prof. Redson Kapindu who obtained his doctorate degree from Wits University in South Africa; it also has Chifundo Kachale who obtained his doctorate degree from the SOAS in United Kingdom; and Michael Mtambo who holds a PhD from Northeastern University in USA
